Paid Advertisement SCSOS Educational Services: Supporting Educators in the Tri-County Area Superintendent Tom Reusser Sutter County Superintendent of Schools Do you wonder what it's like for our new teachers and administrators trying to earn their clear credentials during a pandemic? Even though times have changed and distance learning seems to be the new normal, our beginning educators have to complete their education in order to continue their work. That's where our SCSOS Tri-County Induction Program comes in. Even though things look a little different, our SCSOS Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability and Tri-County Induction Departments continue to provide much needed support for our educators. The focus for our TOP Department has been for mentors to help new teachers find the balance between "just in time" support and self- care in addition to focusing on reflective practices while implementing a goal based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. As a result, the support has gone both ways. The new teachers are supporting their mentors with technology and the mentors are supporting new teachers in the areas of teaching support and self- care. One hundred and sixty mentors work with 200+ new teachers as they complete their ILP (Individual Learning Plan) in order to earn their clear teaching credential. TCIP also provides a CTE Program for 11 candidates. SCSOS partners with Orange County Office of Education for the courses for these candidates. During this school year, SCSOS has hosted virtual trainings and forums in which 99% of teaching candidates and mentors have attended. There are four forums per year and each one has a theme. In January the forum's theme was "Providing Feedback." The forum began with professional development on the theme and then candidates went into break out rooms with their grade level peers for networking. The TCIP Department also provides office hours twice monthly in addition to monthly support groups for new teachers needing to complete their TPAS and/or RICA. Candidates are supported by their mentor with weekly meetings as well. Our TCIP Department also provides a CASC Program (Cear Administrative Services Credential Program). Lisa Shelton, Superintendent/Principal of Franklin Elementary School District serves as the program facilitator. The program serves 19 candidates; 12 coaches work with our candidates. Our SCSOS Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability Department provides professional development sessions for our teacher and administrator candidates. These can be used as their 12 hours per cycle that they need for earning their clear credential.
