Paid Advertisement Student Support and Outreach (SSO) Department Superintendent Tom Reusser Sutter County Superintendent of Schools The SCSOS SSO Department works diligently to support our foster youth in Sutter County through the Foster Youth Services Coordinated Program. One such student attended Yuba City Independence Academy. When he began the program, he was 60+ credits behind. His goal was to graduate by June 2021 and attend Yuba College in the fall. That's when his social worker contacted Sso and Sandi Hill, SSO Intervention and Prevention Specialist, became involved. The foster youth's social worker reached out to Sandi to inquire about FYSCP services available to support the student. The social worker and Sandi scheduled a home visit in April where they discussed his goals and FYSCP services options, including tutoring. He agreed to start meeting with our PASS Assistant, Umaina Kaur twice a week to help provide structure and support towards his graduation goal. By May 12, this student had completed all of his credits, ahead of schedule and was eligible to walk on June 3rd to receive his high school diploma. The coordinated effort between the social worker, and SSO Staff, Sandi Hill and Umaina Kaur supported this student in his endeavors and helped him achieve his goal. The student is now 18 years old, and remains eligible for foster services until the age of 21, through AB 12, Extended Foster Care Program. He will be attending Yuba College in the fall. "It is really all about building relationships and rapport with the kids and their families, the agencies they are connected with, and the school staff that work with them," Sandi Hill said.
